Google Pixel 4: What You Need to Know

The Google Pixel 4 has been officially announced, and we’re here to give you the download on features, specs, and the Google Pixel 4 release date. As they have in previous years, Google will be releasing two versions of the Pixel: the Google Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL—for those who like a bigger screen. Let’s jump into some of the new features.

A Fresh Design

The Google Pixel 4 features a more refined and industrial design than its predecessor. The two-tone textured back is gone, and a smooth all black, white or orange sheet of glass replaces it. A black square houses two lenses for the camera, and a black aluminum frame around the entire phone offers good grip.

Upgraded Display

The display on the Google Pixel 4 has been upgraded to a 90Hz OLED Smooth Display. This screen will refresh 90 times per second, which means the graphics and animations are going to be smooth and sharp. The screen size is 5.7 inches, slightly larger than the Pixel 3’s 5.5-inch screen. The Google Pixel 4 XL has a 6.3-inch display, the same as the Pixel 3 XL. Displays also feature Ambient EQ, which adapts the screen’s color temperature depending on the lighting. The Google Pixel 4 also nixed the fingerprint scanner, which brings us to our next point below.

Motion Sense Radars

The Google Pixel 4 features new Motion Sense technology, which uses a mix of sensors, infrared, and a radar to finally bring face unlock to the Pixel family. In addition to this, the Pixel 4 will use Motion Sense technology to allow you to swipe through the air above the pixel to skip to the next song on Spotify, swipe your hand to dismiss a call, or turn off an alarm.

Car Crash Detection

The Safety app now features car crash detection, which will automatically call 911 if it senses you have been involved in a car accident. Google has stated that fender benders shouldn’t trigger this.

Dual Camera System

One of the biggest upgrades on the Google Pixel 4 is the addition of a second rear camera lens, so get ready to take some pictures. This is the first time Google has added two lenses to a phone. The main camera is the same 12-megapixel one on the Pixel 3 but is now assisted by the new f/2.4 16-megapixel telephoto lens, which will allow for 2x optical zoom, improved lowlight shots and portraits. On the front, you’ll find an 8-megapixel selfie cam. Other camera upgrades include live HDR+, Dual Exposure, and Night Site Mode.

Google Pixel 4 Release Date

The Google Pixel 4 release date is October 24, 2019.
