Flash back to the early 2000s when the Motorola Razr was one of the most popular phones on the market. Fast-forward back to 2019 and this phone is back, better than ever and believe it or not— still foldable. The Motorola Razr 2019 was recently released and we’ve got all of the details for you.
The new Motorola Razr comes in a smoky black color and features a 6.2-inch plastic OLED touchscreen display. And just like its predecessor— it folds right down the middle while still looking thin and sleek. To accomplish this, two stainless steel hinges connected to sliding support plates have been built into the phone. The support plates keep the phone rigid when it’s fully extended, and the hinges push the elements, including the plates out of the way to close. This way you don’t see any crease in the display.
A small glass exterior screen, the Quick View display, shows the time and notifications, and on the other side is a textured design. The chin of the Motorola Razr 2019 features a fingerprint sensor.
The aforementioned Quick View display sits on the exterior of the phone and is designed to hand off tasks to the larger interior screen, or respond to/control certain notifications while the phone remains closed. You can even take calls when the phone is closed and use the main camera to make video calls.
The Motorola Razr 2019 holds a Snapdragon 710 chipset, which is a slightly less advanced chipset. A bigger chipset likely would have generated too much heat for the phone. The Razr runs on Android 9 and supports various signature Motorola gestures that work when the phone is both open and closed, like the signature chop gesture to open the flashlight or wrist twist to open the camera.
There are two cameras on the new Motorola Razr. The main 16-megapixel camera can also be used to take selfies when the phone is folded and also features Night Vision mode for better low-light shots. The 5-megapixel front-facing camera in the interior is buried in the notch at the top of the screen.
