How to Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Android

If you’re making the switch from an iPhone to an Android and recently purchased a new phone, you’re probably wondering how to transfer contacts to another phone. There are a few different ways to do this, and thank goodness, none of them involve manually typing anymore. Let Trademore break down the steps and show you how to transfer contacts from an iPhone to an Android.

Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Android through Your Google Account

If you don’t yet have a Google account, you’ll need to set one up in order to use this method. To do this, you’ll go to the Google homepage and select “Create Account.” If you already have a Google account set up then grab your iPhone and launch the Settings app. Follow these steps from here:

  • Tap on Passwords & Accounts > Add Account > Google
  • Log into your Google account
  • You’ll be asked which data you’d like to sync with your Google account—turn on Contacts

Now that your iPhone contacts are synced to your Google account, switch over to your Android device and log in to your Android phone with your Google account.

  • Go to Settings > Account & Sync > Google
  • Sign in with your Google account information
  • Make sure the toggle for “Sync Contacts” is on and your contacts should sync to the device

Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Android through iCloud

Another simple way to transfer contacts to another phone is through iCloud. First, you’ll need to ensure iCloud is enabled through your iPhone using these steps:

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Tap [Your Name] > iCloud
  • Make sure Contacts is toggled on

From here, you’ll switch over to your computer:

  • Visit iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID
  • Click on Contacts
  • Select the gear icon in the lower left corner and then tap Select All
  • Click Export vCard, which will then download
  • Go to Google.com/contacts and log in with your Google information
  • Tab on More > Import
  • Select the vCard file that was downloaded from iCloud
  • Connect your Android device to your computer
  • Copy the VCF file to the local storage and import the contacts from the Contacts or People app

Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Android through Text or Email

This method is the most tedious and we only recommend using it if you’re not transferring many contacts. Simply go to the contacts section of your iPhone, select a contact and hit “Share Contact”. Again, this is recommended only if you plan to transfer a few contacts.
