How to Unblock Contacts on Your iPhone

If you’ve decided you no longer want to prevent a specific number from sending you calls or texts, you may be wondering how to unblock contacts on your iPhone. Blocking a number is a quick and easy process, and unblocking someone is just as simple. Let’s walk through the steps to unblock contacts on your iPhone.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand what happens when you initially block a number on your phone. A blocked contact cannot call, text or FaceTime you. They can, however, leave a voicemail. When a blocked number calls, your iPhone automatically routes it to voicemail but you will not be alerted that you have a new message. The voicemail will sit in your voicemail box, where you can then decide to delete it or listen to it.

How to unblock someone using your phone settings

1. Tap Settings > Phone. On an iPad, which doesn’t use the Phone app, tap Settings > FaceTime.
2. Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
3. In the Blocked Contacts list, you can swipe left across the number you wish to unblock.
4. Tap Unblock.

How to unblock someone directly from your contacts

1. Open the Phone app and navigate to the “Contacts” tab.
2. Find the contact you’d like to unblock and tap on it.
3. Scroll down until you see “Unblock this Caller” in blue and tap this.

How to unblock someone from your messages

1. Open Settings and tap Messages.
2. Scroll down and tap Blocked.
3. Swipe right to left on the number you want to unblock and tap Unblock

How to unblock someone from your recent calls list

1. Find the number under the “Recents” tab of your Phone app.
2. Tap the corresponding blue “i” in the blue circle on the far right of that number.
3. Scroll down to “Unblock this Caller” in blue, and tap it.

The built in iOS contact blocking features are quick and straightforward but it’s not the only way to block someone. A majority of phone companies offer a service to block phone numbers for you. If you blocked a number through your phone company, the above steps won’t work for you. You will need to call the phone company and ask them to unblock the number for you.
