How to Save Phone Battery

We all know the panicky feeling of a dying cell phone battery, especially when there’s no charger in sight. Though many newer cell phone batteries are being engineered to last longer, if they’re constantly running at full speed, they’re going to drain quickly.

Understand how to save phone battery with these tips:

Stop Using and Close Out Your App

Apps, especially those heavy on graphics and audio, suck the life out of your cell phone battery. Avoid checking Instagram and Twitter until you’ve found a charger. Additionally, be sure to close your apps, not just minimize them. Even though an app may not be currently pulled up on your screen, it may still be running in the background and using up the battery.

Pro tip: On many Androids and iPhones, you can visit the settings and see a list of your apps and how much battery each one is using. This will give you an idea of what apps not to use when your phone is running low.

Turn Down the Screen Brightness

Turning on too many lights in your home uses more energy, and it’s the same story with a bright cell phone. The more your phone has to work to provide a brighter backlight, the more energy it’s using. Turn down that screen brightness and prolong your cell phone battery.

Turn on Low Power or Battery Saver Mode

Androids and iPhones both feature a type of “battery saving mode”. For iPhones, this is called “Low Power Mode”, and for Androids, this is “Battery Saver Mode”. Albeit different names, both have the same goal of saving your battery. In a nutshell, this setting will suspend background app refresh, automatic downloads and other things that may be running your battery down without you knowing.

Connect to Wifi

If you’re able to, connecting to wifi is the way to go when trying to spare your cell phone battery. It requires your phone more energy to access a cellular network.

Disable your Location Services

Some of your apps are likely tracking your location, even when you’re not using it. This is super helpful in some cases, especially if you’re using a navigation app. It can, however, drain your battery. Turn these services on only when you really need them.

Turn on Airplane Mode

Airplane mode isn’t just for when you’re flying. It’s also a great way to save your battery when you’re in a bind. There is a catch, though. Your phone will not be able to make or receive calls and texts while your phone is in airplane mode, nor will you be able to surf the internet. But this is a great way to conserve your battery power for when you need it.

Pro Tip: Once you do reach your charger and get plugged in, you can turn on airplane mode to make it charge slightly faster.
